Is Avocado a fruit or vegetable?

I’ve always been confused about this—Is avocado a fruit or vegetable? It doesn’t taste sweet like most fruits and is often used in savory dishes, so I assumed it was a vegetable. But I’ve also heard people say it’s actually a fruit. Can someone explain what it really is and why?

An Avocado is technically a fruit, specifically a large berry with a single seed. However, it’s often used like a vegetable in cooking.

An avocado is technically a fruit, one-seeded berry. Fruits are botanically produced out of an ovary of a flower and they have seeds. Although its taste is savory, most people consider it a vegetable in the kitchen, which officially belongs to the same category as tomatoes and pumpkins.

Avocado is classified as a fruit that falls under the berry category because it has a single seed inside it. The seed and the development from a flower indicate that the avocado is a fruit.

Botanically, avocado is a fruit because it develops from a flower and contains a seed. In cooking, it’s often treated as a vegetable due to its savory flavor.
