Does polyester shrink after washing or drying?

I’ve been wondering if polyester clothes shrink after washing or putting them in the dryer. I know it’s a synthetic fabric, so it should be more resistant than cotton, but I’ve still heard mixed experiences. Does polyester actually shrink, or only under high heat?

Polyester is pretty resistant to shrinking under normal conditions, but if you throw it in a hot dryer it can definitely shrink a bit. Just stick to low heat or air dry and you'll be fine.

Polyester is a synthetic fiber designed to be shrink-resistant. While it generally holds its shape, it can shrink if exposed to extreme heat during washing or high-heat drying cycles. To maintain the garment's integrity, always use cool or warm water and a low-heat tumble dry setting.

Polyester generally does not shrink because it’s a synthetic, heat-resistant fabric. However, very high heat in a dryer or hot wash can cause slight shrinking or damage.

Polyester is manmade and tends to resist shrinkage in general. Nevertheless, it has the ability to shrink when subjected to high temperatures. In order to preserve its form, the community suggests the use of cool or warm water to wash and a low-heat dryer setting. To eliminate any possible fabric damage it is best to air dry.

Polyester generally does not shrink significantly after washing or drying because it is a synthetic, heat-resistant fabric. However, very high heat in dryers or irons can cause slight shrinkage or damage. Washing in cold water and air drying helps maintain its original size and shape.
