Is Avocado a fruit or vegetable?

I’ve always been confused about this—Is avocado a fruit or vegetable? It doesn’t taste sweet like most fruits and is often used in savory dishes, so I assumed it was a vegetable. But I’ve also heard people say it’s actually a fruit. Can someone explain what it really is and why?

An avocado is technically a fruit, one-seeded berry. Fruits are botanically produced out of an ovary of a flower and they have seeds. Although its taste is savory, most people consider it a vegetable in the kitchen, which officially belongs to the same category as tomatoes and pumpkins.
