I recently heard that the dogwood tree has an ancient story or legend connected to history and symbolism. I’m curious to know where this story comes from and how it has influenced the way people view the dogwood tree today.

The ancient story of the dogwood tree comes from Christian folklore. It says the tree was once large but was reduced in size after being used for the cross. Dogwood flowers symbolize sacrifice, rebirth, and hope, with petals said to represent the crucifixion story.

The ancient Christian legend says the dogwood tree once grew tall and strong. It was used to make the cross for Jesus’ crucifixion. Saddened, God transformed it into a smaller tree so it would never be used for crucifixion again. Its four petals symbolize the cross, the nail marks appear on each petal’s edge, and the red center represents Christ’s blood.

The ancient story of the dogwood tree is a Christian legend that says the dogwood was once a tall, strong tree used to build the cross of Jesus Christ. After the crucifixion, God is said to have made the tree small and twisted so it would never again be used for such a purpose.

Its flowers are believed to symbolize the crucifixion—the four petals represent the cross, the nail-like marks show the wounds, and the red center symbolizes the crown of thorns.

The ancient story of the Dogwood Tree links it to the crucifixion of Jesus Christ. Legend says its wood formed the cross, and afterward the tree was made small and twisted. Its four petals symbolize the cross, bearing nail marks and a crown-like center.
