What is a mosquito repellent plant, and which ones work best?

I am looking to create a natural barrier in my garden to keep bugs away this summer. Specifically, what is a mosquito repellent plant that actually lives up to the hype? I’ve heard about Citronella and Marigolds, but I want to know which varieties have the highest concentration of natural oils to be effective. If you have experience with what is a mosquito repellent plant, please share which ones are easiest to maintain in pots versus the ground.

I've had great success with Citronella and Lemon Balm in keeping mosquitoes at bay in my garden. Citronella has a high concentration of citronellal, which is a natural oil that repels mosquitoes, and it's pretty easy to maintain in pots. Lemon Balm is another winner, it's a hardy perennial that can thrive in the ground and has a strong citrus scent that mosquitoes don't like. Marigolds are also a good choice, but I've found they're more effective at repelling nematodes than mosquitoes. If you're looking for low maintenance, I'd recommend Citronella or Catnip, they're both easy to grow and can thrive in pots or in the ground with minimal care.
