What are beginner-friendly types of palm trees?

Palms are a good place to begin with in order to make your house feel tropical. The Parlor Palm is almost impossible to destroy in bad light, and is, therefore, the favorite of learners. The Areca Palm or the Majesty Palm provide greener, feathered leaves and are remarkably strong with frequent watering, should you have additional space.

If you’re just starting out, go for low-maintenance palms like Areca Palm, Parlor Palm, or Kentia Palm. They’re pretty forgiving and handle indoor conditions well without demanding perfect care. I’ve found Parlor Palm especially easy to care for since it tolerates low light and occasional missed watering, while Areca grows a bit faster if you want something fuller. If you’re planting outdoors, the Pygmy Date Palm is a good beginner option since it’s hardy and not too fussy.
