These are on sale in nearly all big-box stores and are so pretty that I would love to have one, but I have heard they are very divas as soon as you bring them home. Are they really able to survive in the typical living room environment or do they need the humidity and light of greenhouse to remain green?

Yes — but it’s not the easiest indoor plant.
Majesty palms can grow indoors and look beautiful, but they need bright indirect light, warmth, and high humidity to thrive.
They prefer 6–8 hours of indirect light, consistently moist (not soggy) soil, and temperatures around 18–29°C.
They’re considered somewhat challenging houseplants because they’re sensitive to dry air and environmental changes.

I've had my fair share of experience with Majesty Palms and I can tell you they can be a bit finicky, but with the right care, they can thrive in a typical living room environment. The key is to provide them with bright, indirect light and maintain a consistent watering schedule, as they don't like to dry out completely. They do prefer a more humid environment, but you can get away with misting them regularly or placing them on a tray with pebbles and water to increase the moisture around them. With a little extra attention, they can stay green and beautiful, so if you're willing to put in the effort, I say go for it and grab one while they're on sale.
