I have a dog at home and recently got a eucalyptus plant—does anyone know if eucalyptus is safe for dogs, or could it be harmful if my pet chews the leaves or smells it? 🌿

No, Eucalyptus is not safe for dogs. The plant contains oils that can be toxic if dogs chew the leaves or ingest them, potentially causing vomiting, drooling, or weakness.

Eucalyptus oil and compounds in eucalyptus have proven to be harmful to dogs. If a dog happens to ingest eucalyptus leaves, bark, or oil, it may cause vomiting, diarrhea, drooling, weakness, or confusion in the dog. Even the smell of eucalyptus oil may irritate a dog’s respiratory system. Since dogs are sensitive to a wide range of toxins found in plants, it would be advisable to avoid exposing them to eucalyptus plants or oil. If a dog happens to show unusual symptoms after exposure to eucalyptus oil or plants, it would be advisable to contact a veterinarian.

Eucalyptus is not safe for dogs. The plant and its essential oil contain compounds that can be toxic if ingested or inhaled in large amounts. Dogs may experience vomiting, diarrhea, drooling, weakness, or seizures. Always keep eucalyptus plants and oils away from pets.
