How to Dose Fertilizer for Plants?

Hi everyone, I’m new to gardening and a bit confused about how to dose fertilizer for plants. I’ve seen different instructions on liquid and granular fertilizers, but I’m not sure how to adjust the amount based on plant type or pot size. How often should fertilizer be applied, and is it better to dilute it more than recommended to avoid burning the roots? I’d really appreciate any simple guidelines or tips you follow for healthy plant growth.

Hey! A good rule is to follow the package instructions but start a bit weaker, especially for pots like half-strength then feed every 2–4 weeks, adjusting based on how your plants look and grow.

Use fertilizer according to the label instructions—that’s the safest rule. In general:
  • Use less than recommended for young plants (about half strength).
  • Apply every 2–4 weeks during growing season.
  • Water soil first, then fertilize to prevent root burn.
  • Avoid overfertilizing—too much can damage plants.
