I'm making an alphabetical vegetable chart and totally stuck on vegetables starting with Q. Quinoa is the only one I can think of — but is it really a vegetable? Are there other Q-named vegetables, even regional or less-known ones, that could fill this gap in my list?
Very few vegetables start with Q. The most commonly known one is Quinoa, which is often considered a grain but is actually a seed used as a vegetable in cooking. Another less common example is Quail eggs, though it is not a vegetable. Because of this, true vegetables beginning with Q are quite rare in everyday lists.
Honestly Q is the hardest letter for this, quinoa is the go-to answer but it's technically a seed, quince is sometimes grouped in depending on how you define vegetables, so you're not really missing much there.
Vegetables starting with Q include quinoa leaves, queen anne’s lace root, quandong, quararibea fruit, and qing geng cai. However, truly common vegetables beginning with Q are very limited in English vocabulary.
