I have a minor infestation starting near my recycling bin, and I want to build a quick trap tonight using things I already have in my pantry. I've heard mixed reviews about using plastic wrap with holes versus a paper funnel. In your experience, what is the best setup for how to catch fruit flies effectively so they can't crawl back out?

A simple homemade trap for fruit flies requires putting apple cider vinegar in a container and adding some dish soap, covered with plastic wrap containing holes.

The easiest DIY fruit fly trap uses a small bowl with apple cider vinegar and a drop of dish soap. Cover it with plastic wrap and poke tiny holes. Fruit flies enter for the smell but struggle to escape, helping reduce their numbers.

An easy DIY trap for catching fruit flies is to fill a small bowl or jar with apple cider vinegar and a few drops of dish soap. The fruit flies are attracted to the smell, and the soap breaks the surface so they sink and get trapped.

One of the easiest DIY traps for fruit flies is a small bowl or jar filled with apple cider vinegar and a drop of dish soap. The smell attracts the flies, and the soap causes them to sink instead of escaping. You can also place a piece of overripe Banana or other fruit inside the jar and cover the top with plastic wrap poked with tiny holes so the flies can enter but struggle to get out. Place the trap near sinks, trash bins, or fruit bowls for the best results.
