I’m looking for advice on the best way to plant a peony since this is my first time growing one. I’ve read that planting depth and sunlight really matter for blooms. If anyone has experience or step-by-step tips that actually work, I’d really appreciate your suggestions.

Pick a spot with 6+ hours of sun. Dig a hole twice as wide as the root ball and ensure the "eyes" (pink buds) are only 1 or 2 inches below the surface.

I’ve had the best luck planting my peony shallow, those “eyes” should sit just about 1–2 inches below the soil—and make sure it gets plenty of full sun. Trust me, once I fixed the depth and gave mine more sunlight, the blooms were totally worth the wait! 🌸

The best way to plant a peony is in fall (September–November) so roots establish before winter. Choose a sunny spot with at least 6 hours of direct sunlight and well-draining soil. Dig a wide hole and mix compost into the soil for nutrients. Place the peony root so the “eyes” (small pink buds) sit only 1–2 inches below the soil surface planting too deep can prevent blooming. Backfill gently, water thoroughly, and add light mulch. Space plants about 3 feet apart for airflow.

Planting too deeply can prevent blooming. Water well after planting and mulch lightly. Peonies thrive with space, good airflow, and minimal disturbance.
