What Are the Drawbacks of Composite Decking?

Hey guys, I’m thinking about installing composite decking. Are there any downsides I should know about before choosing it over wood in terms of cost, maintenance, or durability?

I've had a composite decking installation at my home for about 5 years now and overall I'm satisfied with its durability and low maintenance, but I do want to note that the initial cost is definitely a drawback for some people, it's almost double the price of traditional lumber, also the colour of the boards can fade over time, and it can be prone to scratches if not properly maintained.

Composite decking offers durability and low maintenance, but it has drawbacks. It is more expensive than wood, can retain heat in sunlight, may fade over time, and lacks the natural look of real timber, making repairs and replacements more noticeable.

"Hi, I've had composite decking for a few years and can attest to its durability. However, some drawbacks to consider are the high upfront cost, limited design options, and potential for scratches and fading. Regular maintenance is also necessary to keep it looking its best. It's a great choice for low-maintenance, but not necessarily budget-friendly."
