What are the best tips to keep flowers fresh?

Every time I buy flowers from the grocery store, they seem to lose their vibrancy within 48 hours. I make sure to cut the stems at an angle, but I feel like I’m missing a crucial step in the conditioning process. Does anyone have professional florist-level advice on how to keep flowers fresh from the moment you bring them home until they reach the vase?

I've had the same issue with flowers losing their vibrancy quickly, but I've found that a few extra steps can make a big difference. After cutting the stems at an angle, I make sure to remove any leaves that will be below the waterline in the vase, as these can cause bacteria to grow and shorten the flowers' lifespan. I also add a floral preservative to the water, which you can usually get from a florist or make your own with sugar, vinegar, and lemon juice. Additionally, I change the water every few days and keep the flowers away from direct sunlight and heat, which seems to help them last longer.

Try letting them “rest” in lukewarm water with flower food right after you bring them home, then trim and arrange later. Also keep the vase water fresh daily and away from heat or fruit, it really boosts their life.
