I’m planning to grow carrots in my garden. What is the right method, soil type, and care needed to get healthy carrot growth?

Choose loose, well-drained soil in full sun. Sow carrot seeds ¼ inch deep in rows, spacing lightly. Keep soil moist until germination. Thin seedlings to 2–3 inches apart. Harvest when roots reach desired size.

To grow healthy carrots, you'll want to start with well-draining, loose soil that's free of rocks and debris, as carrots can be quite finicky about their growing conditions. A mix of compost and sand can work well. Sow your seeds about a quarter inch deep and keep the soil consistently moist, but not waterlogged. Full sun is best, so choose a spot that gets at least six hours of direct sunlight a day. Keep the area weed-free to prevent competition for nutrients, and avoid using high-nitrogen fertilizers, which can cause your carrots to fork or become misshapen.

The soil should be loose and well-drained and devoid of rocks when planting carrots. Planting can be done directly in rows outside at 0.5 cm depth and spacing 2 to 3 cm apart. Regular watering is required to keep the soil wet while spacing out the sprouts to 5 cm apart.
