How to build a raised garden bed?

Raised garden beds are very popular because they offer better drainage, control of soil and better plant growth. This question can be used to explore materials, size, placement, soil mix and progressive building assembly. Raised beds are a great community topic since many gardeners like to garden in raised beds for vegetables, flowers and small spaces.

"Hey, I built one last summer. Just use some 2x6s for the frame and fill with a mix of soil and compost. Make sure to add drainage holes too. Super easy and my plants love it"

A raised garden bed is pretty simple to build. I made one using untreated cedar boards, screws, and a few corner brackets. Pick a sunny spot, build a rectangular frame (usually 6–12 inches deep), level the ground, place the frame, and fill it with a mix of topsoil, compost, and organic matter. It’s an easy weekend project and makes gardening much more manageable, especially if your native soil isn’t great.

Steps involved in building raised garden beds: Pick a sunny area, make a frame with untreated wood, bricks or stone, and put it on level ground. Fill your bed with a good soil and compost, then sow your veggies, herbs, or flowers and keep the soil moist through regular watering.
