How do you plant and grow mushrooms in Minecraft?

I’m working on a survival base and I want to set up a sustainable food source in the basement. I’ve been having trouble getting them to stay in the ground, so how do i plant a mushroom in minecraft without them immediately breaking? I know light levels are a huge factor, but I’m looking for tips on the best blocks to use (like mycelium or podzol) and how to effectively grow the giant versions for better harvesting.

To plant mushrooms in Minecraft without them breaking, you'll want to make sure the area is dark enough, so try to keep the light level at 12 or lower. Using mycelium or podzol as the base block is a good idea, as they allow mushrooms to spread and grow. You can also use a mix of dirt and other blocks to create a suitable growing area. For giant mushrooms, you'll need to plant them in a 7x7 square of the right blocks, making sure to leave a 3x3 space in the center for the mushroom to grow. Keep the area moist by placing water nearby, and you should start to see your mushrooms thrive, making for a great sustainable food source in your survival base.

To plant mushrooms in Minecraft without them breaking, you'll want to use a block that's suitable for growth, like mycelium or podzol, as you mentioned. These blocks work well because they have the right properties to support mushroom growth. When planting, make sure the area is dark enough, as light can cause them to break. You can use dirt or other blocks to cover the area and block out any light. For giant mushrooms, you'll want to use a specific type of mushroom and have a large enough area, at least 7x7, to allow them to grow. Using mycelium or podzol in this area can help promote healthy growth and increase your chances of getting giant mushrooms.

In order to grow mushrooms in Minecraft, simply plant a mushroom in a place with low lighting conditions, such as dirt, mycelium, or podzol blocks. Alternatively, in later versions of the game, one could use bone meal to instantly propagate mushrooms.

In Minecraft, to plant mushrooms, they need to be 12 light level or less. Instead, I would plant them on mycelium or podzol, which will enable them to remain in position irrespective of light. Giant mushrooms must be grown on a modest mushroom with adequate overhead clearance, topped with bone meal.
